As brands begin rolling out their gift guides (us included – peep ABLE Gift Guides here) and start peppering red and green dashes of cheer into their content, we wanted to check in and see how you’re doing. Are you ready for the holiday season? Have you thought about it yet? Don’t worry, we’ve got you.

As much as we agree that Thanksgiving deserves its rightful place on the calendar, and we will absolutely pause for pie and gratitude, the reality of 2021 is that we have to plan ahead – and we’re here to help. If you’re wanting to give thoughtful gifts this year, here are our best pro-tips for holiday shopping.

Plan ahead, and be flexible.

Our best tip this season is to plan ahead. Don’t wait until after Thanksgiving or, heaven forbid, Christmas Eve to think about what you’ll gift. Make a plan and leave room for flexibility, for shipping delays, and for grace (for yourself and the people you come into contact with). Last-minute decision making and shopping will only lead to frustration, stress, and panic. At this point, you still have time – use it!

If you’re one of those people who likes to give a tangible gift, don’t hesitate to buy what’s available. No one loves an impulse buy, which is why we suggest planning ahead. Know what you’re looking for and be ready to pull the trigger on that checkout page ASAP.

Shop local.

Stop by your local specialty shops and pick up what you need while also supporting your own community. Shopping online was once the easiest, quickest, and most seamless way to shop. But if we’ve learned anything in the past couple years, it’s that slowing down and supporting each other creates a more meaningful impact. You’ll feel good, the person receiving the gift will feel good, and that local business will get to continue on to the next calendar year. Plus, you never know, you might just make a new friend.
