Introducing the "In Your Element" Series– We’re kicking off a series featuring some of our favorite relatable ladies (think ABLE staff, content creators, artists, you name it!). Stay tuned for honest chats about their everyday lives, how things are going lately, and all the good and bad in between.
Meet Sawyer– ABLE copywriter and self-proclaimed cooking queen, living in Barcelona, Spain.
When do you feel most in your element?
I’m in my element when I feel both comfortable and challenged. In my eyes, you need both to always be growing while living a life you still enjoy in the everyday. There’s nothing I love more than tackling a new recipe with glass of Rioja in hand or exploring somewhere I’ve never been before, whether that’s a country on my bucket list or a coffee shop I’ve been meaning to try. When I surround myself with people who feel the same way, I’m constantly discovering new environments that feel like me.
What are some things you’re into lately or inspired by?
-Walking everywhere. It’s one of my favorite part of living in Europe. Bonus perk, all the sun!
-Podcasts. Second Life is my latest obsession– it dives into honest and practical conversations with some incredible women.
-Skincare. So original, I know. I've found a few products that are really game changers, especially since I’ve mostly ditched makeup these days.
-Dance cardio. It’s impossible to leave a dance class in a bad mood or without a confidence boost. Obé fitness is my go to.
-Mixology. Normally, I love getting drinks with friends, but these days, I’m experimenting with what I have on hand. Adding amateur cocktail creator to my resume ASAP.
How are you doing? No really, how are you doing?
I'll be candid– life is weird. If you would have told me a year ago that I’d soon endure one of the world’s strictest lockdowns during a global pandemic, and then experience the genesis of a civil rights movement from a foreign country, I don’t know if I would have believed it.
But, the beauty of all that is, when you lose your ‘normal,’ there’s room for growth. For the first time (maybe ever?), I’ve learned to take things a day at a time. I’ve learned to listen with no agenda, and to address racial biases in my own mind and heart. This year looks almost nothing like I once expected to, but I'll always be grateful for the ways it's pushed me to become a stronger and better version of myself.
