A chat with Barbara, ABLE's first jewelry maker

In honor of the three year anniversary of our ABLE jewelry team, we are launching an exclusive set of pieces called The Heritage Collection. This collection is a symbol of three years of growth, with our team expanding from 2 to 20.
That's 20 women impacted, 20 women overcoming each and every day, and 20 women that are a vital part of our company, impacting not only their own lives and communities, but communities around the world.
This is a celebration of how far we've come, so we sat down with Barbara, the first jewelry maker at ABLE and asked her a few fun questions for a trip down memory lane.

What’s your favorite piece we’ve ever launched?
I think my favorite piece we have ever launched is the Manifesto necklace that launched with our first ever brass collection. Brass was new for us, and specifically, the Manifesto presented quite the challenge for our team. It has since become one of our best sellers and a piece the team has now perfected!

What’s your favorite memory?
Our jewelry team is an incredibly close group of women, this past year a group of us booked a room in Florida on the beach for a weekend and it was so much fun! So much fun, in fact we are already planning next years trip!

What’s the most challenging skill to learn?
The most challenging skill I have learned is soldering our metals. There are a variation of skill sets involved in soldering and I just love putting a flame to something, and watching a piece turn from ashes to beauty. It is rewarding to say the least.

Do you have a favorite material you like to work with?
I prefer working with 14k Gold-filled, it is easy to work with and the end results are stunning.

Do you have a piece you wear everyday?
I love my gold-filled petite circle earrings! They are for the minimalist, like myself and I can wear them everyday as they go with everything!

What’s the most memorable personalization piece you’ve ever created?
One of the ladies in our office knew a dear couple that had lost a child. She asked if I would make a necklace with the child's birth date stamped on it, which I did. She later told me that the mom was overwhelmed with gratefulness and burst into tears when she gave it to her. I love that a skill like making jewelry can speak life and encourage someone so profoundly. I felt so privileged to be able to do that for her.
We are so thankful for Barbara and all of the hardworking, incredible women on our jewelry team. We thank YOU - the customer - for your support over the last three years. Together we can continue to create safe, sustainable jobs for women all over the world. As a small thank you, the first 100 customers to purchase the Heritage Collection will recede a handwritten note from our ABLE team to you.
