Introducing Spring 23' - A Letter from Our Director of Design

You will see two main themes in our Spring 2023 collection: Crafted and Tailored Sport. This collection was so fun to bring to life because its objective was to make beautifully made products that were not only stylish and beautiful, but functional for everyday life. We are loving the juxtaposition of these key stories together and are excited about the endless styling options they bring.

ABLE’s story started with working with women in Ethiopia coming out of some really hard circumstances and who wanted to make scarves to provide a better life for their families. Our roots are grounded in artisanal makers and this collection felt true to our origin story. Our Design team was inspired by textures found in nature and the feeling of optimism that Spring ushers in. We focused on crafted and handmade details such as textured fabrics, crochet inspired stitches, smocking, sun-bleached denim, braiding, and woven details throughout the collection. We experimented with new materials such as canvas and stamped textures in our leather and footwear assortments. And while this collection is grounded in gorgeous earth tones, we played with some key seasonal trend colors to make it feel fresh and optimistic, such as pistachio and vintage pink. We were very thoughtful with where we used these details  and color to ensure that they were easy to layer into our customer’s closets and didn’t feel too literal.

This is where you will also see Tailored Sport enter in, with relaxed fits, comfortable fabrics such as terry, easy care cottons, drapey viscose, and classic shirting’s.  We also wanted to level up our leather by introducing some new styles in our lux full grain leather and gold hardware - which gives a more polished look. Since 2020, comfort has been Queen and I know that all of us have added more athletic and loungewear into our closets. But, in 2023, we wanted to evolve this trend as the consumer’s lifestyle has with pieces that work for hybrid roles, urban commuting, the return of travel-and all with a few sporty pops.  You will also start seeing us interject more function in our handbags with interchangeable straps and add on such as the Mamuye insert this season and beyond-making it easier to “do more with less”.

Given the inspiration of this collection, it only felt fitting to do our photoshoot at local Nashville artist Brook Noel Morgan’s (@the_abode) home, which also serves as her studio. The minimal, nature-infused décor and textured abstract artwork was the perfect backdrop to highlight this season’s pieces. 

A few other noteworthy things that I would be remiss to not mention-this season we are introducing denim up to 24W in two styles! The Chelsie Straight-which has quickly become an ABLE signature and a new style, the Holly Kick Flare, which is a fun style for spring. Both styles are available from 00-24w and are coming soon! We pushed the envelope with a few new on-trend pieces such as the Reese Loafer and Cady Sneaker-both provide a fun “pop” to any outfit. We took inspiration from Mother Earth with our jewelry with our Daisy and Tiger Eye collections. We also have a few great new staples like the Harris Button Down in a stripe, the Graham Button Down, and the Mara Tank, which all have such great styling options. The Micah Blazer and Alethea Pant are the suit of the season and are made in the softest, drapey fabric-perfect for spring/summer. And pssst-there might be a matching short coming this summer! The Jackee Crossbody bag is my personal go-to this season, with its chic top handle strap and all the pockets, it’ll be your new favorite too!

Personal Note. This was my first collection as the Head of Design at ABLE, so it holds a very special place in my heart and I am excited for all that’s to come! I am hopeful  and confident that you will find one or two (or more!) pieces that serve you well and make you feel gorgeous.
